_ define the word “grid” = a structure made up of horizontal and vertical lines, and on it a designer places things like headings, text, images, captions, etc. It can be complex of very simple.
_ why do we (designers) use a grid? what are the benefits or functions? = The grid provides a framework where text, image, and space can be combined in a unified and cohesive manner. The grid has evolved into an indispensable structure enabling us to produce rationalized layouts.
_ what is a modular grid? = Includes grid elements that each have a display ratio which is adaptable to correspond to different aspect ratios of respective display devices via which media content can be displayed
_ define and illustrate: margins = The area that is not accommodated by the text.
_ columns = Groups of text that are vertical in length.
_ grid modules = An area calculated in depth by the text leading and width by the text line length.
_ flowlines =Alignments that break the space into horizontal bands.
_ gutter = Inner margins of the page that separate modules from one another.
_ define hierarchy = Information that is to be viewed, such as title, subtitle, caption, block of text, illustrations and graphic devices.
_ define typographic color (this does not mean color as in change it to a color) = The optical grayness of text type, particularly visible while squinting when viewing a block of text.
_ what are ways to achieve a clear hierarchy? = Have a clear structure. Type weights, sizes of headings, and any subdivision of the text must be distinguishable at a glance.
_ define white space = Technically the negative space, where there is no text or image.
_ define contrast = How elements in the layout contrast or how the layout itself contrasts with its context .
